Rivers Elders Back Governor Fubara In Political Dispute With Wike

Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has announced that the elders of Rivers State are rallying behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara in his ongoing conflict with Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The discord between the two political figures has been escalating since October 2023, following impeachment proceedings initiated against Governor Fubara by some state lawmakers…….CONTINUE READING....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to mediate, Governor Fubara remains at odds with 27 state lawmakers who have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and pledged their allegiance to Wike. Additionally, five commissioners loyal to Wike resigned from the State Executive Council earlier this week.

In an interview with Punch on Friday, Secondus affirmed that state leaders, regardless of political affiliations, are unified in their support for Governor Fubara. He emphasized that the elders of Rivers State are committed to preventing any crisis that could destabilize the region, given its significant role as an oil-producing state, which directly impacts the nation’s revenue.

Secondus urged President Tinubu to intervene and restrain Wike from exacerbating tensions in the state. He stressed the importance of maintaining stability in Rivers State to safeguard its contributions to the national economy.

“In my case, you know I’m a member of the PDP, and I have the moral right to support him. Even during the election, I was with him. Now, every leader in the state is queuing behind the governor in this face-off; we cannot just wait and allow an individual to give our state a bad name.

“As I said, Rivers is an oil-producing state and anything that affects it will have a ripple effect on the nation’s revenue. We have to guide against that. That is why I want President Bola Tinubu to call his minister to order and stop him from plunging Rivers State into an avoidable crisis,“ Secondus stated.

Ambassadorial Nomination Under Fire: Frank Tie Tie Exposes ‘Mistake’ Regarding Ex-FUOYE VC Fasina!.

Human rights lawyer Frank Tietie has criticized the nomination and subsequent confirmation of Professor Abayomi Fasina, the former Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, as a non-career ambassador designate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Prior to his confirmation, a coalition of civil society organizations protested at the National Assembly on July 7, 2026, opposing Fasina’s nomination due to pending court cases involving allegations of sexual harassment, human rights violations, and victimization.

  • Despite these protests, the Nigerian Senate officially confirmed Fasina’s appointment as a non-career ambassador on Thursday.

Frank Tietie’s Position

  • During an interview on ARISE Television, Tietie argued that nominating an individual with such “baggage” was a mistake, emphasizing that ambassadors represent Nigeria in the same capacity as the President.

  • Tietie stated that the government should have sent the “right signals” by avoiding such controversial appointments, especially given the current state of governance.

  • He argued that even in the absence of a final court judgment, the allegations themselves have “tainted” Fasina’s reputation, and the Senate should have delayed the confirmation until the legal matters were resolved.

  • Tietie also suggested that the National Assembly’s decision overlooks significant social changes regarding how such allegations are now viewed by society.
