Commissioner Fanwo highlighted the ongoing efforts of the state government, led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, to tackle the recent surge in criminal activities within the region. “The state government is rising to the challenge of defeating the torrent of criminality waged against the state in the last month,” Fanwo stated.
The Commissioner attributed the recent influx of criminals into Kogi to the intensified military operations in the North East, which have displaced many insurgents, bandits, and kidnappers. He emphasized that the Kogi State Government is employing a robust strategy to protect the state from these criminal elements.
Fanwo also provided an update on the recent kidnapping incident involving students from the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) in Osara. “With the rescue of 21 out of the 24 CUSTECH students kidnapped last week, the State Government made a clear statement that Kogi will be ruthless against criminals. This morning, we received the heart-warming report of the rescue of the Yagba West woman and another woman from Yagba East Local Government Area,” he reported.
Efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the remaining three students still held by their captors. The Commissioner emphasized the state government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all its citizens, stating, “Every Kogite’s life is important to the government.”
To further strengthen security, Governor Ododo has approved the immediate employment of thousands of local hunters across the state’s 21 Local Government Areas. These hunters are tasked with pursuing criminals and dismantling their camps and hideouts.
Fanwo detailed the comprehensive security measures in place, which include joint operations by the Army, Police, DSS, NSCDC, Metropolitan Response Squad, and the Hunters Group. These operations are being conducted simultaneously in Lokoja and across Kogi’s three Senatorial Districts, including border communities.
“Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has silently declared war on criminals in the state and deployed resources and forces to ensure the enemies of our people are defeated,” Fanwo stated, expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support in making Kogi a crime-free state.
He urged citizens to contribute to the state’s security efforts by providing intelligence to security agencies. “We want to assure our people that the Government is working hard to protect everyone and that the criminals are learning in a hard way that Kogi won’t be a ground for their criminal trade. The criminals are rattled and they won’t escape justice,” Fanwo concluded.
The Kogi State government’s proactive measures and collaborative efforts with federal security agencies underscore its commitment to restoring peace and security across the region.
