Speaking during a radio programme in Abeokuta, Ogunyemi emphasized that such actions are illegal and violate sections six and seven of the law establishing TRACE. He clarified that while the government grants permits for organizing social events, these permits do not extend to blocking public roads for the convenience of event attendees.
“It is illegal to block roads for social parties,” Ogunyemi reiterated. He highlighted the prevalence of lawlessness among the populace, often citing permits obtained from local governments as justification for road blockages. However, he emphasized that these permits are solely for organizing social gatherings and do not grant authority to obstruct public roads.
To ensure the smooth flow of traffic during social events, Ogunyemi stressed the necessity for TRACE’s involvement. He underscored the agency’s role in maintaining traffic order and facilitating the movement of vehicles, particularly during gatherings that may impact road usage.
Ogunyemi also emphasized the importance of addressing such lawless behavior through continuous public enlightenment efforts. He noted that TRACE officers prioritize sensitization and counseling of offenders, focusing on corrective measures rather than strict enforcement.
This warning serves as a reminder to residents to adhere to traffic regulations and refrain from unlawfully blocking roads for social events, contributing to the safety and efficiency of road usage in Ogun State.
