Rivers Government Denies Toxic Work Environment Amid Resignation Wave: Commissioner Defends Governor Fubara’s Leadership
In the wake of a flurry of resignations from the Rivers State Executive Council, the government has adamantly denied allegations of fostering a toxic work environment. Joseph Johnson, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, staunchly defended Governor Sim Fubara’s leadership, asserting that his administration provides a conducive atmosphere for its appointees to operate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The recent wave of resignations, which saw five commissioners stepping down, has sparked concerns about the state of governance within the Fubara administration. Citing a toxic working environment as the primary reason for their departure, these resigning officials have brought attention to underlying tensions within the government.
However, Johnson rebuffed these claims, emphasizing that Governor Fubara affords his appointees the freedom to carry out their duties without undue interference. He portrayed the resignations as a natural aspect of governance dynamics, citing the prerogative of individuals to make choices regarding their appointments.
“The notion of a toxic work environment is unfounded,” Johnson declared in a statement addressing the resignations. “We all operate within the same atmosphere, and the governor has consistently upheld a liberal approach to governance. Those who have chosen to resign have done so of their own volition.”
The resignations come amidst an ongoing power struggle between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). While some observers speculate that political tensions may have contributed to the resignations, Johnson dismissed such interpretations, attributing the departures to individual decisions rather than external pressures.
“It is common to witness changes in government personnel,” Johnson remarked. “These resignations are part of the natural ebb and flow of governance. Governor Fubara remains committed to steering the affairs of the state and providing a conducive environment for all stakeholders.”
As the political landscape in Rivers State continues to evolve, the government’s response to the recent resignations underscores its determination to project stability and confidence in its leadership. Despite the challenges posed by the departures, Governor Fubara’s administration remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering on its mandate and fostering progress for the people of Rivers State.

‘They Drank One Another’s Urine To Stay Hydrated’ – Atiku Shares Niger Miners’ Ordeal After Meeting Survivor.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, on Thursday, Atiku described the survivor’s account as a “gory tale.” According to the former Vice President, who visited Niger State to meet with the families of the deceased, one survivor revealed that 68 detainees were crammed into a small detention cell. The survivor further stated that conditions became so dire in the NSCDC facility that they were forced to consume each other’s urine to remain hydrated.
Atiku condemned the treatment, asserting that no citizen should be subjected to such humiliation and indignity while in the custody of their own government. He emphasized, “It was a gory tale listening to one of the survivors. He told us that more than 68 of them were crammed into one small detention facility and that conditions became so desperate that they had to drink one another’s urine just to stay hydrated. No Nigerian should ever be subjected to such indignity in the custody of his own government.”

“‘I Was Sexually Assaulted’: Andy Carroll Speaks Out In Stunning Personal Confession”.
Former England and Liverpool striker Andy Carroll has shared a powerful personal confession, revealing that he was sexually assaulted by a man at his home in 2021.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Carroll, 37, disclosed the traumatic experience in his newly released autobiography after deciding to include it following last-minute discussions with his partner, Lou Teasdale.
The incident took place during Carroll’s second spell with Newcastle United. According to the book, an acquaintance of his former partner—who was away at the time—had visited to watch a boxing match and was scheduled to stay overnight. Carroll stated that the man assaulted him while he was asleep. After discovering what happened, Carroll threw the man out of the house and subsequently knocked him unconscious when he attempted to return.
Following the incident, Carroll immediately called the police, later describing himself as “sobbing” in the arms of his children’s nanny. The perpetrator was subsequently convicted of sexual offenses, sentenced to three years in prison, and placed on the sex offender register. Carroll testified during the court proceedings, calling the ordeal “humiliating and embarrassing and absolutely horrendous.”
Writing about his decision to go public, Carroll reflected on the heavy emotional toll:
“I was sexually assaulted, there I said it. Scary to even think about, and only a few people knew about it before now… What happened to me affected every facet of my life. I’d think about it every day, making it difficult to focus on anything else, including football… The trauma of what happened to me hasn’t gone away.”
Despite the hardships, the former international hopes that sharing his story will encourage others to speak out, adding that if it helps just one person, it will have been worth it. Carroll currently plays for Dagenham & Redbridge, having joined the club in July 2025.

Why Are Students Becoming Politicians, Going About To Inspect Projects? – Reuben Abati Tackles Umahi.
Former presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, has questioned Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, for allowing the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to inspect road projects across the country and submit reports.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to reports, a NANS delegation, led by President Comrade Babatunde Akinteye Afeez, conducted a nationwide tour of Federal Roads Projects, visiting sites in the North-West and other regions. Following the inspection, the students praised the quality and pace of the construction but also highlighted areas needing improvement, such as pedestrian bridges near tertiary institutions located on major highways.
Umahi expressed his satisfaction that the students had independently initiated the project site visits across the six geopolitical zones. He noted that the students declined the Ministry of Works’ offer of logistical support, insisting on conducting their own assessments and forming their own conclusions.
However, during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show, Abati challenged Umahi’s decision to involve students in duties typically performed by politicians or government officials. Abati argued that students should prioritize their academic responsibilities over inspecting road projects.
Abati stated, “Minister Umahi was talking to a group of students, NANS. They went on an inspection of Federal Government road projects in Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, all the way to Sokoto State and the whole of the North-West. And they brought a report to the Minister of Works that this is what we have observed. Please, how is it that Nigerian students are now the ones going about inspecting road projects? These are students, NANS is an association of students. Why are these students not focusing on their studies? Why are they becoming politicians, going about inspecting projects and giving reports to the minister? When I was a student, we were very serious people, you have to stay on campus, you have to attend classes, but now students are inspecting road projects and I find that very curious.”
