The deadly confrontation involved groups led by notorious bandit leaders Bello Kaura and Kachalla Najaja. According to reports, the intense gun battle raged for three hours, resulting in significant casualties on both sides.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the clash began when Kaura and Najaja’s factions encountered each other in Sunke Forest, leading to a heavy exchange of gunfire. Kaura’s forces eventually overpowered Najaja’s group, forcing them to retreat towards the Gandu forest in Bukuyum.

Local sources disclosed that Kaura’s resistance was fueled by Najaja’s attempts to encroach on his territory. Najaja’s attacks on villages under Kaura’s control in Anka were perceived as a direct challenge, prompting a violent response. The initial skirmish saw Kaura’s men kill six of Najaja’s fighters.

In retaliation, Najaja mobilized more armed men and launched a counter-attack in the Sumke forest, leading to the deaths of 17 more bandits loyal to Kaura. The ongoing rivalry between these groups has led to widespread fear and displacement among local residents, many of whom have fled their homes to escape the violence and extortion demands from these bandit leaders.

Kaura, determined to eliminate his rival, has vowed to continue his offensive against Najaja’s faction. In response, Najaja’s group is reportedly preparing for another major confrontation, signaling a potential escalation in the conflict.

The persistent banditry and inter-factional violence in Zamfara State continue to pose severe challenges to regional security and stability, with local communities bearing the brunt of these deadly power struggles.
