In a statement released by EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale, Olukoyede stressed the importance of CSOs adhering to their core mandates and refraining from supporting detrimental governance practices.

Expressing dismay at instances where state governments fund CSOs to undermine anti-corruption efforts, Olukoyede emphasized the detrimental impact of CSOs championing ill-motivated causes and defending corrupt individuals and groups.

Olukoyede underscored the critical role of CSOs in combating economic and financial crimes, citing their contribution to high-profile prosecutions and their role as prosecution witnesses.

The EFCC chairman also lauded President Bola Tinubu’s initiatives aimed at tackling corruption, particularly measures addressing consumer credit and the Student Loan Scheme, which he believes will significantly reduce corrupt practices.

In response, Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, chairman of the Conference of Northern States Civil Society Networks, commended Olukoyede for his commitment to combatting economic crimes and advocated for enhanced grassroots engagement to counter false narratives against the EFCC.

Olukoyede’s remarks underscore the importance of civil society’s role in fostering accountability and transparency in governance, urging CSOs to remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice and integrity.
