Nigerian Government Set To Restructure And Reform NYSC, Minister Announces
The Federal Government has unveiled plans for a comprehensive review, restructuring, and reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to align it with the demands of the future. Dr. Ibrahim announced that the upcoming reforms would focus on overhauling the NYSC program to incorporate entrepreneurship and skills development as core components. Emphasizing the importance of nurturing an entrepreneurial mindset among participants, the Minister revealed that the government aims to fund the entrepreneurial ventures of over 5000 corps members with amounts up to N10 million each.

Moreover, Dr. Ibrahim outlined the government’s vision of transforming the NYSC into a self-sustained and revenue-generating program within the next five years. To achieve this goal, plans are underway to institutionalize NYSC ventures as an investment and asset management outfit.

In his address, the Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, highlighted the objective of the meeting, which is to enhance the mobilization process of prospective corps members. He emphasized the importance of direct involvement from chief executives of corps-producing institutions in addressing identified flaws and ensuring a seamless mobilization process.

General Ahmed reiterated NYSC’s commitment to the security and welfare of corps members, urging cooperation from corps-producing institutions, parents, and the general public in sensitizing young graduates on national service deployment procedures.

Representing the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, Mrs. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, Mandate Secretary of the Women Affairs Secretariat, FCT Administration, commended NYSC for its role in national development, unity, and integration. She encouraged innovative strategies to tackle challenges and enhance engagement of young graduates in national development efforts, praising NYSC’s adoption of technology-driven approaches to improve operations. Participants were urged to actively contribute to the success of the meeting, reflecting a collective commitment to advancing the NYSC’s mission.

Despite failing to secure the APC ticket after participating in its primary, and his subsequent exclusion from the electoral commission’s roster, the former IGP’s camp maintains he is firmly in the contest. Abdullahi Yammani, the Director General of Adamu’s Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation, stated in Lafia that following extensive consultations across Nasarawa’s 13 local government areas, Adamu resigned from the APC and completed an online registration with the SDP. Yammani emphasized that the former police chief aims to leverage his background in security and governance to address the state’s challenges.

With Musa Adamu Angbazo currently listed as the SDP candidate instead, controversy has naturally emerged. However, Yammani remains optimistic that the issue will be ironed out, maintaining that they possess documentation backing Adamu’s registration and candidacy with the party.
