Reps Initiate Probe Into Binance Executive’s Escape, Dismiss Bribery Allegations
The House of Representatives has commenced an investigation into the escape of Nadeem Anjarwalla, the Head of Binance Africa, from the custody of the National Security Adviser. Anjarwalla and Tigran Gambaryan were detained in Abuja before Anjarwalla managed to escape and flee the country, which was deemed an embarrassment to Nigeria.
Okafor’s motion called for an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Anjarwalla’s escape.
Additionally, the House addressed allegations of soliciting bribes from certain individuals. Kama Nkem Kanma raised a point of order on privilege, asserting that the House cannot be associated with such allegations. While Binance was not explicitly mentioned, it is noted that Richard Teng, the CEO of Binance, recently accused members of the House of demanding bribes during a probe conducted by the House of Representatives Committee on Financial Crimes.
Kanma emphasized that the House did not make any such demand from Binance and called for decisive action against the accusations.
In response, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas instructed the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Danzaria, to utilize the media to refute the bribery claims.
