Ondo State Government Denies Allocation Of N5 Billion For Daycare Center Renovation

Emmanuel Igbasan, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, attributed the mistake to a printing error and clarified that it was a mix-up.
Previously, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had accused Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of using the alleged allocation as a means to gather funds ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
Igbasan clarified in a statement: “The five billion naira provision was actually meant to reflect the expected drawdown from the Nigerian for Women Project (World Bank supported), which had earlier been captured under the capital receipts of the document.”
He further explained that the reported N18 million for the Nigerian for Women Project was intended for the renovation of a daycare project. The commissioner acknowledged the regrettable error in the document’s publication, attributing it to a printer’s interpolation mistake.
He assured that at the operational level, this error would not materialize and would be nearly impossible to detect. The Ministry took full responsibility for the mistake and initiated corrective measures immediately.
Families of the 37 suspected illegal miners who died while in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger State have rejected a reported ₦100,000 payment from the state government, demanding justice instead of financial compensation. The detainees had been arrested during anti-illegal mining operations in M.I. Wushishi and Lukoto on September 15 and 16, 2026, before dying in NSCDC custody in Minna. While the NSCDC initially blamed a disease outbreak, relatives raised concerns over overcrowding and poor treatment.
