Arewa Youths Criticize Sule Lamido For Condemning Northern Governors’ US Trip
A socio-cultural group known as Arewa New Frontiers (ANF) has lambasted former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido for his criticism of some northern governors’ initiative to seek foreign assistance in addressing security challenges in the region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Lamido had recently questioned the wisdom of ten governors from the Northwest and North Central zones engaging with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) to tackle insecurity, arguing that security matters fall under the Exclusive Legislative List and are beyond their jurisdiction.
In response, the national coordinator of ANF, Abubakar Lawal, stated during a press conference that Lamido’s criticism was unwarranted and baseless. Lawal argued that the governors deserved commendation for their efforts and emphasized that no society has a monopoly on solving security challenges.
While acknowledging Lamido’s right to his opinion, ANF urged him to focus on his case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and refrain from interfering with the governors’ initiatives.
The group expressed disappointment in Lamido’s comments, particularly considering his past role as Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Obasanjo. They emphasized the importance of global collaboration in addressing security issues and rejected narrow interpretations of the governors’ trip, highlighting its broader scope beyond security discussions.
ANF emphasized the need for modernized strategies and equipment to tackle contemporary security threats effectively and urged support for efforts aimed at enhancing capacity and understanding in combating insecurity. They concluded by expressing optimism about the governors’ efforts and their commitment to finding solutions to the region’s challenges through international collaboration.
