In his address, Minister Momoh expressed deep appreciation to the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Sheriff Oborevwori, for hosting the event and demonstrated gratitude towards other governors and representatives present for their dedication to the Niger Delta’s progress.
Under the theme “Stimulating Strategies for Economic Growth and Development in the Niger Delta Region,” the meeting focused on multifaceted approaches to address challenges and introduce innovative initiatives.
Minister Momoh emphasized the alignment of the Council’s agenda with the Eight Presidential Priorities of the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. These priorities, including economic reform, peace, and infrastructure development, form the backbone of the “Renewed Hope Agenda” aimed at transforming the region.
“I urge your patience and support to accomplish this historic national task,” Minister Momoh appealed, highlighting the commitment of all Ministers and Permanent Secretaries to these priorities.
Enumerating the Ministry’s mandates, Minister Momoh outlined strategic objectives such as promoting peace and security, managing infrastructural projects, empowering youth and women, and accelerating environmental cleanup efforts. He assured stakeholders of ongoing efforts, including collaboration with the Ministry of Works, to improve the road and enhance economic activities.
“We are strengthening our coordination mechanism to achieve planned objectives in the Niger Delta Region,” Minister Momoh declared, stressing the need for shared purpose and transparency among stakeholders.
The Minister’s impactful speech resonated with attendees, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Shuaibu Abubakar Audu, the Minister of Steel Development.
President Tinubu’s acknowledgment of the Minister’s role in the Niger Delta’s progress underscored the administration’s commitment to the region’s development. He emphasized a comprehensive plan focusing on education, infrastructure, and economic challenges, highlighting the ministry’s renaming to “Niger Delta Development Ministry” to reflect this core mandate.
Additionally, the President detailed plans to revitalize the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and expedite projects such as the East-West Road and refinery operations across the region.
In a show of appreciation, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State thanked President Tinubu for appointing Minister Momoh, recognizing his visionary leadership in managing the ministry’s affairs.
The Minister’s address marked a significant moment in the quest for economic growth and development in the Niger Delta Region. As stakeholders engage in fruitful deliberations, the collective commitment to transforming the region into an industrial hub remains unwavering.
