Alhaji Danjuma Garba Binkola, who was set to be installed as “Garkuwan Hausawan Benin” in Edo State, has publicly appealed for forgiveness from the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II.
The installation, organized by one Alhaji Adamu Isa Adamu, self-styled as “Sarkin Hausawa,” was slated to take place on Sunday, May 5, 2024, in Benin City. However, the planned ceremony faced opposition from the Benin Traditional Council, as conveyed in a letter signed by Chief Sam Igbe, the Iyase of Benin Kingdom.
In a viral video alongside some friends, Binkola expressed remorse for his involvement in the event, admitting that he was unaware of its implications. He emphasized his deep roots in Benin, highlighting his family’s long history in the city and his upbringing there.
Binkola clarified that he was misled about the purpose of the installation, believing it was merely to assist in overseeing Hausa community affairs and communicating with the palace.
