Price Reduction Of Cooking Gas Amid Naira Appreciation
Price Reduction Of Cooking Gas Amid Naira Appreciation....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a recent development, the cost of liquified natural gas (LPG), commonly referred to as cooking gas, is witnessing a notable decline following the strengthening of the Nigerian currency, the Naira. This comes after concerns were raised in March by both consumers and gas retailers over the escalating price of cooking gas, prompting calls for urgent government intervention.
A recent survey conducted by Legit reveals that several sellers have slashed the prices of cooking gas from ₦1,500 per kilogram to approximately ₦1,100 across various markets. For instance, at the Gasland facility located in the Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos, the retail price of the product has been reduced to ₦1,100 per kilogram, down from the ₦1,500 price tag observed in March.
According to an anonymous Gasland plant manager quoted in the aforementioned report, the price of a 12.5-kilogram gas cylinder, which previously stood at ₦14,400 two weeks ago, has now dropped to ₦13,300. The manager attributes this price reduction to the availability of foreign exchange (forex) for imports, emphasizing that the appreciation of the Naira has played a significant role in driving down costs.
Furthermore, the manager suggests that if the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) continues its interventions in the forex market, prices may witness further declines. He explains, “It is common knowledge that the value of the dollar has decreased, and since Nigeria relies heavily on imported LPG, the appreciation of the Naira has contributed to the reduction in commodity prices.”
He elaborates, “Just a few weeks ago, our facility sold a 12.5-kilogram gas cylinder for as high as ₦15,600 due to forex scarcity. Additionally, most of our inventory consisted of old stocks purchased at an exchange rate of N1,500 per dollar. However, with the current exchange rate ranging between N1,200 and N1,100 per dollar, it would be unreasonable to maintain the previous high prices dictated by forex scarcity.”

Cooking Gas Prices Drop Significantly Across Nigeria: Relief for Households and Businesses
A recent survey conducted by Naija News has revealed a notable decrease in the price of cooking gas in Nigeria, offering much-needed relief to households and small businesses. According to the survey, the cost of refilling cooking gas per kilogram has reduced significantly from ₦1,350 to ₦1,020.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This positive development is expected to ease the financial burden on Nigerian families and small enterprises, especially those that heavily depend on cooking gas as a primary energy source. The survey, encompassing gas stations and vendors from various parts of the country, shows that the reduced price may help lower the overall cost of living.
The revised price breakdown is as follows:
-
1 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦1,020
-
3 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦3,060
-
5 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦5,100
-
10 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦10,200
-
12.5 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦12,750
This decline marks a significant shift from the previous upward trend in gas prices and is likely to positively impact the economy, particularly the food and hospitality sectors. Businesses that rely on cooking gas will experience reduced operational costs, ultimately boosting their profit margins.
Experts attribute the drop in cooking gas prices to several factors, including fluctuations in global energy costs and adjustments within local supply chains. Despite recent variations in crude oil and natural gas prices, the reduction is perceived as a welcome development for Nigerian consumers.
By spending less on cooking gas, households and small businesses will now see some financial relief in their monthly budgets, especially during these economically challenging times.
