Governor Usman Ododo of Kogi State has arrived at the Abuja residence of the immediate past governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, where some operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have barricaded the building. Ododo arrived at Bello’s Abuja residence, located on Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4, at about 2:45 pm, greeted by supporters of the former governor and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Naija News earlier reported that EFCC officials and armed security personnel had barricaded Bello’s Abuja home, blocking both entrances. The EFCC operatives laid siege shortly after the former governor met with President Bola Tinubu at the State House. An EFCC official, who requested anonymity, disclosed that EFCC operatives attempted to enter the house but were denied access by Bello’s security personnel.

The EFCC had filed charges against the former governor, accusing him of financial fraud amounting to ₦84 billion. In an amended charge, the anti-graft commission accused Bello of diverting ₦80 billion of state funds in September 2015, four months before he took office.

Campaign Response: Rex I. Elanu, spokesperson for the Omoyele Sowore/Magashi 2027 Presidential Campaign, has addressed comments made by PRP presidential candidate Donald Duke regarding Sowore’s presidential bid.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Disputing “Voice of Conscience” Limits: While acknowledging Duke’s description of Sowore as a “voice of conscience,” Elanu rejected the notion that Sowore should remain permanently on the sidelines rather than holding executive power.

  • True Aim of the Bid: The campaign clarified that Sowore is not running simply to occupy Aso Rock or replace President Bola Tinubu, but to overhaul the entire political order responsible for poverty and corruption.

Key Arguments from the Campaign

  • Systemic Overhaul: Elanu emphasized that the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate seeks to dismantle the existing system that continually produces corruption, insecurity, inequality, and underdevelopment.

  • Rejection of Opposition Coalitions: The campaign dismissed the idea that a proposed G100-style opposition coalition of failed leaders could serve as a true vehicle for Nigeria’s political liberation.

  • The People’s Coalition: Instead of elite political arrangements, the campaign asserted that its primary alliance is with everyday Nigerians, including students, workers, farmers, traders, and pensioners.

  • From Conviction to Governance: Elanu stressed that Sowore is running to transition his political convictions and truths into direct governance as the people’s president, rather than just being an outside critic.

Note: The campaign ultimately challenged Donald Duke and other opposition figures to look past questions about ambition and instead examine Sowore’s concrete policy positions.

Former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim has defended President Bola Tinubu’s decision to skip the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), arguing that reports about a planned seating arrangement next to United States President Donald Trump would not have changed much.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

  • Constitutional Flexibility: Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Anyim stated that the President is not constitutionally required to attend the UN gathering in person, noting that Vice President Kashim Shettima or the Foreign Minister is fully equipped to represent the country.

  • Routine Proceedings: Anyim explained that the core of the UNGA consists of reading national statements and attending side meetings, pointing out that physical presence is unnecessary unless specific bilateral agreements were pre-scheduled.

  • Dismissing the “Trump Factor”: Addressing speculation regarding the seating arrangement next to Donald Trump, Anyim emphasized that a president’s schedule is planned months in advance and sitting together by chance carries little diplomatic weight.

Context on the Delegation

  • On Vacation: Anyim noted that Nigerians were already aware the President was on a short vacation while his vice handled government responsibilities.

  • Delegated Authority: President Tinubu mandated Vice President Shettima to lead Nigeria’s delegation to New York to deliver the national statement and engage in high-level discussions.
