Elder statesman Edwin Clark has called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to form a taskforce dedicated to rescuing the Chibok schoolgirls and others held in captivity. Speaking during a press conference in Abuja marking the tenth anniversary of the girls’ abduction, Clark emphasized the need for a coordinated rescue operation led by a courageous taskforce.
Clark criticized past administrations for their failure to rescue the abducted girls and urged Tinubu to demonstrate bold leadership by sparing no effort in securing their release and establishing a legacy for his administration. He highlighted that approximately 90 of the girls remain in captivity, emphasizing the nation’s responsibility to its citizens.
The elder statesman urged Tinubu to appoint a special taskforce comprised of brave, competent, and transparent individuals, free from nepotism. He expressed concern that the current government may not be fully committed to the rescue effort, citing the prolonged captivity of the Chibok girls as evidence.
Clark drew parallels with the United States’ successful rescue of its citizen, Mr. Philip Walton, who was abducted near the Niger-Nigeria border in October 2020.
