In response to the California Journalism Preservation Act (CJPA), Google has taken a proactive stance by announcing plans to test the removal of links to California news websites. The proposed bill seeks to enforce a “link tax” on digital platforms for linking to news articles, a move that Google argues could severely disrupt its operations and the broader news ecosystem in the state.
The CJPA aims to compel platforms like Google to compensate publishers for links and snippets of news articles displayed in search results and news feeds.
