The Nollywood community was plunged into grief on Wednesday following the tragic death of actor Junior Pope and several crew members. Reports indicated that the actors were on a boat departing from the movie location on Wednesday, April 10, when they encountered an accident in the Anam River in Anambra State…….READ ALSO
Shortly after news of Junior Pope’s passing circulated online, it was discovered that he was taken to a mortuary without a doctor’s assessment, only to find out he was not deceased. Instead of being rushed to the hospital, he was reportedly taken to a shrine for certain rituals before finally being admitted to a medical facility.
This situation surrounding the actor’s demise drew criticism from many Nigerians, particularly the absence of life jackets, lifeguards on the boat, an emergency medical team, and CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) despite his survival.
In cases of emergency, such as collapse or drowning, administering first aid to revive the patient while awaiting professional medical help is crucial. Here are steps on how to perform CPR:
- Call emergency services or instruct someone to do so.
- Position the casualty on their back, ensuring they are on a firm surface.
- Kneel to one side of the casualty.
- Locate the notch where the ribs meet the breastbone.
- Place the middle finger of one hand in the notch and the index finger next to it.
- Position the heel of the other hand next to the two fingers.
- Place the other hand on top so the heels of both hands are over the same point on the breastbone.
- Interlock the fingers to keep them off the chest.
- With straight and locked elbows and shoulders over the casualty’s chest, press straight down using your body weight to compress the breastbone 4-5cm (the depth of an adult’s thumb). Maintain a smooth, uninterrupted rhythm, allowing equal time for compression and relaxation.
- Administer 30 compressions at a rate of 80-100 compressions per minute. Follow with two slow, full breaths.
- Reposition hands and administer a further 30 compressions followed by two breaths.
- Continue the ratio of 30 compressions to two breaths. After completing four cycles of chest compressions and breaths, administer two additional breaths and then check the pulse in the neck.
