As of Tuesday, 9th April 2024, the exchange rate for a dollar to naira at the Lagos Parallel Market (Black Market) indicates that players buy a dollar for N1200 and sell at N1210, according to sources at Bureau De Change (BDC).
Here are the latest rates for the Dollar to Naira exchange rate in the black market today:
- Buying Rate: N1,246
- Selling Rate: N1,247
It’s important to note that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) does not officially recognize the parallel market (black market) for foreign exchange transactions. The CBN has directed individuals seeking foreign exchange services to approach their respective banks.
Despite the fluctuations in exchange rates, the Nigerian currency, the naira, has recently witnessed a significant appreciation in the parallel foreign exchange (FX) market. On Monday, the naira appreciated to N1,120 against the dollar, marking a 9.67 percent improvement compared to N1,240/$ recorded earlier in April.
In Lagos, Bureau de Change (BDC) operators, commonly referred to as street traders, set the purchase price of the dollar at N1,100 and the selling price at N1,120, earning a profit margin of N20 per dollar.
Similarly, in the official trading window, the naira strengthened by 1.63 percent to N1,230.61/$, up from N1,251.05/$ recorded earlier in April. This positive shift in the currency’s value is reflected in substantial trading volumes, with $125.55 million recorded in official transactions monitored through the FMDQ Exchange platform overseeing the Nigerian Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (NAFEM).

Cooking Gas Prices Drop Significantly Across Nigeria: Relief for Households and Businesses
A recent survey conducted by Naija News has revealed a notable decrease in the price of cooking gas in Nigeria, offering much-needed relief to households and small businesses. According to the survey, the cost of refilling cooking gas per kilogram has reduced significantly from ₦1,350 to ₦1,020.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This positive development is expected to ease the financial burden on Nigerian families and small enterprises, especially those that heavily depend on cooking gas as a primary energy source. The survey, encompassing gas stations and vendors from various parts of the country, shows that the reduced price may help lower the overall cost of living.
The revised price breakdown is as follows:
-
1 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦1,020
-
3 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦3,060
-
5 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦5,100
-
10 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦10,200
-
12.5 kg of Cooking Gas: ₦12,750
This decline marks a significant shift from the previous upward trend in gas prices and is likely to positively impact the economy, particularly the food and hospitality sectors. Businesses that rely on cooking gas will experience reduced operational costs, ultimately boosting their profit margins.
Experts attribute the drop in cooking gas prices to several factors, including fluctuations in global energy costs and adjustments within local supply chains. Despite recent variations in crude oil and natural gas prices, the reduction is perceived as a welcome development for Nigerian consumers.
By spending less on cooking gas, households and small businesses will now see some financial relief in their monthly budgets, especially during these economically challenging times.
