The intrepid swim coach embarked on this remarkable journey with a noble cause in mind—to raise awareness for suicide and depression, issues close to his heart. Revealing his own struggles with depression in the past, Coach Dreh shared that his passion for swimming ultimately pulled him from the depths of despair and prevented him from succumbing to thoughts of suicide.
Choosing the Third Mainland Bridge as the site for his courageous endeavor held poignant significance, as it is sadly known as a common location for public suicides in Lagos.
The awe-inspiring event unfolded in Lagos on March 30th, drawing a crowd of spectators and supporters, including Coach Dreh’s dedicated medical team. Notably, Mobolaji Ogunlende, the Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, graced the occasion, representing the state government and demonstrating solidarity with Coach Dreh’s cause.
Undeterred by the daunting challenge ahead, Coach Dreh plunged into the waters and embarked on his epic swim, traversing the entire 11.8-kilometer length of the bridge without pause. In a testament to his endurance and determination, he completed the remarkable feat in just 2 hours and 33 minutes.
