The Arewa Youth for Peace and Security has criticized Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, accusing him of neglecting security issues in the state.
The group’s condemnation comes in response to reports circulating on social media alleging that the former governor and current Minister of Defence for State, Bello Matawalle, distributed foodstuffs to the Ado Aliero-led bandits operating in Zamfara.
In a statement signed by its President, Abubakar Hassan Kankia, the group accused Governor Lawal of exploiting insecurity concerns during Matawalle’s tenure for political gain, only to neglect his promises to address security challenges after assuming office.
According to the group, Lawal’s administration has failed to effectively tackle banditry in the state, despite his campaign promises to restore security within his first 100 days in office.
The statement further criticizes Lawal for allegedly squandering public funds on frivolous activities while disregarding his constitutional duty to provide security and deliver governance to the people of Zamfara.
The group laments the rise of insecurity in Zamfara under Lawal’s leadership, pointing out that bandits now openly praise him, viewing the state as a safe haven for their activities.
In conclusion, the Arewa Youth for Peace and Security accuses Governor Lawal of incompetence and calls for urgent action to address the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara State.
