Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo and the chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, has captured attention by purchasing front-page advertisements in multiple national newspapers to commemorate President Bola Tinubu’s 72nd birthday, despite the president’s desire for a modest observance.
Earlier, the presidency had announced that President Tinubu would forgo celebrating his birthday on March 29, citing the prevailing economic challenges confronting the nation. The president expressed his preference for no celebratory events and encouraged well-wishers to make charitable donations in his honor.
However, Tompolo, whose firm plays a significant role in combating crude oil theft in the Niger Delta, chose to pay tribute to the president by placing prominent birthday messages in at least eight national dailies on Friday.
According to reports from TheCable, the cost of such front-page advertisements averages around N10 million each.
This public display of celebration by Tompolo is not unprecedented. In October 2023, following the Supreme Court’s confirmation of Tinubu’s presidential election victory, he similarly acquired front-page spaces in several newspapers to mark the verdict
