The suspension, triggered by Ningi’s allegation of a staggering N3.7 trillion budget padding by the National Assembly, has sparked outrage among concerned citizens striving to uphold the integrity of their elected representatives.

Issuing a resounding call for justice, the Arewa group demands the immediate lifting of Senator Ningi’s suspension and urges the Executive arm of government to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations. Alhaji Alhassan Sabo and Dr. Susan Ogbaji, Chairman and Secretary of the initiative respectively, underscore the gravity of the situation and emphasize the need for transparency and accountability in governance.

In a strongly-worded statement released from Jos, the group expresses deep dismay over the unfolding events in the Senate Chamber, lamenting the erosion of public trust in the very institution entrusted with safeguarding the interests of the Nigerian people. The allegation of budget padding, if proven true, strikes at the heart of national integrity and threatens the economic well-being of future generations.

“We cannot remain silent in the face of such blatant disregard for the welfare of our nation,” the statement declares. “Senator Abdul Ningi’s courage in exposing this grave misconduct deserves commendation, not punishment. The Senate’s hasty decision to suspend him speaks volumes about the entrenched corruption plaguing our legislative process.”

The Arewa group asserts its commitment to peace and development in the North and across Nigeria, emphasizing that political neutrality has never compromised their dedication to upholding truth and justice. They call upon all Nigerians to unite in solidarity with Senator Ningi and demand accountability from those entrusted with leadership roles.

“Enough is enough,” the statement declares emphatically. “We refuse to tolerate the continued oppression of the Nigerian masses by a select few who prioritize personal gain over national interest. We demand immediate action from the Senate leadership to rectify this grave injustice and restore faith in our democratic institutions.”

With a firm resolve to mobilize support from across the nation, the Arewa group issues a rallying cry for justice and accountability, signaling their unwavering commitment to defending the rights and aspirations of the Nigerian people.

Former Minister of Education, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has called on Nigerians to stop targeting the general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, with their frustrations regarding the state of the nation. She contends that the clergyman is being incorrectly singled out and is not to blame for Nigeria’s current difficulties.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ezekwesili emphasized the following points in her statement:

  • She characterized Adeboye as a humble servant of God who has spent his life advocating for peace and national development.

  • While acknowledging that many Nigerians want religious leaders to be more vocal in demanding government accountability, she maintained that Adeboye has consistently offered prayers and spoken up for the nation.

  • She explained that long-standing issues—such as systemic corruption, economic hardship, and insecurity—have left Nigerians exhausted and deeply distrustful of politicians, institutions, and influential figures.

  • She warned that the country has a tendency to prioritize less significant issues rather than addressing urgent national crises.

  • Ezekwesili noted that while Adeboye typically responds to criticism with “dignified silence,” she felt compelled to speak publicly to refocus attention on the “urgency of this moment” and the core issue: the need for religious leaders to help rescue the nation from “ineffectual, corrupt, and selfish politicians”.
