During his visit, Engr. Momoh had a fruitful meeting with the State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, at the Government House in Owerri. This meeting provided an opportunity for fruitful discussions on ongoing projects and strategies to enhance development in Imo State and the wider Niger Delta region.

Afterwards, the minister held constructive discussions with HRH Eze E.C Okeke, the Chairman of Imo State Traditional Rulers Council, aiming to familiarize himself with the cultural and traditional nuances of the state.

Additionally, the minister sought to identify areas where collaboration with the traditional rulers could enhance peaceful community relations, recognizing that without peace in the Niger Delta, progress and development initiatives would be hindered.

Engr. Momoh conducted thorough inspections of various infrastructure projects, including the Okpuala-Igwuruta Road in Egor/Okpuala LGA, and the Elele-Owerri Road spanning 35.75 kilometers. Additionally, he inspected emergency repairs on failed sections of internal roads in Udenwa Estate, Owerri Municipal, and the Ochicha Ngugo-Ekeamaehi-Aforeziama-Owuzor Eziama Road (Lot 1).

Engr. Momoh reaffirmed the government’s unwavering dedication to fostering inclusive development across the Niger Delta region. He assured Governor Uzodimma of the ministry’s steadfast commitment to forging close collaborations with Imo State and other key stakeholders to tackle developmental hurdles and uplift the standard of living for the region’s residents.

Governor Uzodimma warmly welcomed the minister and his team, expressing gratitude for their tireless efforts in driving development initiatives within the Niger Delta. He commended Engr. Momoh for the progress achieved thus far and urged for sustained partnership between the federal government and the state to drive forward sustainable development projects.

However, he also highlighted the pressing need for the ministry’s attention to the numerous uncompleted projects across the state, emphasizing the importance of conducting a thorough audit to expedite their resumption and completion.

The working visit underscored the importance of partnership and coordination in achieving sustainable development goals in Imo State and the wider Niger Delta region. As Engr. Momoh continues to engage with stakeholders and assess projects on the ground, there is optimism for accelerated progress and positive transformation in the region.

The new agency will be housed within the Office of the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare to serve as a national hub for coordinating the country’s digital health initiatives. Key functions of the office include:

  • Harmonizing and empowering both public and private health institutions across the system.

  • Establishing standards to connect these institutions.

  • Operationalizing the National Digital Health Architecture, which the National Council on Health approved in November 2025.

  • Reinforcing, rather than replacing, the existing statutory functions of relevant agencies and departments.

Dr. Adigwe, who previously served as the Director General of the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, brings significant experience in utilizing science to drive advancements in technology transfer, artificial intelligence, and translational research. His notable achievements include coordinating a ¥300 million nanotechnology grant, leading a roadmap that secured an €18 million EU grant, and directing a project for Africa’s first API Training Facility. Additionally, he gained international recognition during the pandemic for conducting the world’s first analysis to challenge claims regarding the Covid Organics preparation.

The NHTDAO will be guided by a Steering Committee, which includes:

  • Co-chairs: Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, and Mr. Olaniyi Yusuf, Chairman of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group.

  • Alternate Co-chair: Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare.

  • Other Members: Ms. Kachollom Daju, Mr. Idris Alubankudi Saliu, Dr. Muntaqa Umar-Sadiq, Dr. Abdu Mukhtar, Dr. Muyi Aina, Dr. Kelechi Ohiri, the Director of Health Planning, Research and Statistics, a representative from the National Information Technology Development Agency, one representative from each of the six geopolitical zones for State Commissioners of Health, and industry stakeholder Pharm Hamza Buhari.

President Tinubu anticipates that the NHTDAO will hasten Nigeria’s shift toward a secure, data-driven, and interoperable health system, ultimately enhancing health outcomes for all citizens in accordance with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
