In a startling revelation that has stirred the entertainment industry, Nigerian film actress Habibat Jinad has opened up about an unsettling experience she claims to have endured at the hands of her senior colleague, Mide Martins, that ultimately led her to contemplate bleaching her skin.

Speaking candidly in an interview with Biola Bayo on the popular talk show “Talk To B,” Jinad recounted a distressing incident on the set of a movie produced by Mide Martins’ husband, Afeez Owo. According to Jinad, she was unjustly penalized alongside her colleagues for a mistake made by someone else, and it was during this moment of reprimand that Martins allegedly made disparaging remarks about her skin color….READ ALSOGlowing Skin Secrets, The Transformative Effects Of Shea Butter For Daily Skincare

Recalling the incident, Jinad revealed how Martins compared her complexion to that of a monkey in front of the cast and crew, leaving her deeply hurt and humiliated. The actress expressed how profoundly the derogatory comments affected her self-esteem, prompting her to consider altering her appearance to conform to societal standards of beauty.

“At a rehearsal ground at Afeez Owo’s set, something happened, a colleague of mine did something and I wasn’t the one who did that thing and they said we should kneel. Mrs. Mide Martins was there, my boss was there and some other people and Mide Martins compared it to a monkey’s skin,” Jinad recounted emotionally.

The emotional toll of Martins’ remarks, coupled with the pressure to conform to unrealistic beauty standards, led Jinad to contemplate bleaching her skin in a bid to appease her colleague and others who had criticized her appearance.

The actress’s revelation has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many expressing outrage over the alleged mistreatment and commending Jinad for her bravery in speaking out. The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the pervasive influence of colorism and the damaging impact of societal pressures on individuals’ self-esteem and self-image.

As the spotlight shines on this troubling episode, one can only hope that Jinad’s bravery in speaking out will spark meaningful change and foster a culture of inclusivity and acceptance within the entertainment community.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted approval for a fresh legal move seeking to compel the Nigeria Police Force to reopen investigations into the death of Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The ruling was delivered on Wednesday by Justice James Omotosho following an application filed by the Registered Trustees of Break the Silence Foundation, a civil society organisation.

The group approached the court through its counsel, asking for permission to seek an order directing the police to conduct a more thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.

The suit lists the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, as respondents.

Mohbad died in September 2023 in Lagos, a case that sparked widespread public outrage and calls for justice both within Nigeria and internationally.

In its ruling, the court allowed the group to pursue orders compelling the police to carry out their statutory duties under the Police Act, including questioning individuals last seen with the singer such as his wife, close associates, and his father, and taking further action where necessary.

The court also approved substituted service on the Lagos State Police Command through the office of the Inspector-General of Police’s Legal Department in Abuja.

The case has been adjourned to May 4 for further hearing.

According to court documents, the organisation argued that the initial investigation into Mohbad’s death was inadequate and possibly compromised.

It further claimed that although a nurse linked to his treatment before death was arrested and prosecuted, several key persons were not properly investigated.

The group also noted that although the matter was initially moved to Abuja for a fresh probe following public pressure, it was later returned to Lagos without a conclusive outcome.
