Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has urged for the implementation of new strategies to prevent the recurrence of student abductions and enhance the security of schools, particularly those in rural areas. Sani, a socio-political activist, welcomed the news of the students’ release but emphasized the need for proactive measures to safeguard educational institutions.
In a statement shared on X, Sani remarked, “The news of the release of Kaduna Students hostages is a welcome development. New strategies must be adopted to prevent reoccurrence and protect all schools especially those in rural areas.”
The 287 students abducted from LEA Primary School Kuriga and Junior Secondary School in Kuriga town, Chikun Local Government Area, were kidnapped by bandits on March 7. Governor Uba Sani confirmed their release in the early hours of Sunday.
The bandits had demanded a ransom of N1 billion for the release of the abducted children, although it remains unclear whether the students were rescued by security operatives or if a ransom was paid.
