According to sources, Saleem persistently pressured Hauwa, a student at the College of Nursing Sciences in Maiduguri, to accept his love proposal, but she declined.

Fueled by her rejection, Saleem reportedly assaulted her with a club until she lost consciousness.

Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, disclosed these events on Friday, March 22, 2024, stating that Saleem was arrested by the police but later released under the directive of Borno State Secretary to the Government, Hon. Bukar Tijjani.

Saleem allegedly threatened Hauwa with severe consequences if she did not reciprocate his affection, stating, “I can even kill you, and nothing will happen.”

Despite Saleem’s subsequent release by the police, he purportedly taunted Hauwa through Facebook Messenger.

In response to the police’s actions, Hauwa’s relatives filed multiple complaints, eventually leading to Saleem’s rearrest. However, he was released once more, allegedly due to political influence.

Jummai Mshelia, Borno Coordinator of the National Human Right Commission, condemned the attack, urging that Saleem be prosecuted to deter similar acts.
