The governor issued this directive during a meeting with members of the Miners Association of Nigeria, Benue Chapter, held in Makurdi. Additionally, Governor Alia instructed the Mineral Resources and Environment Management Committee (MIREMCO) to promptly initiate the documentation of data for all miners operating within the state.

The decision to conduct this revalidation exercise stems from reports highlighting security threats associated with mining activities. Governor Alia expressed concern over the contamination of water sources, particularly in areas like Kwande, impacting the well-being of residents.

Emphasizing the government’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and environmental integrity, Governor Alia called upon security agencies and the joint task force on illegal mining to ensure strict adherence to regulations.
