The alarming mishap occurred around 1:10 pm near Eucharistic Secondary School, opposite Coca-Cola junction, Asa Dam Road, Ilorin, sending distress signals throughout the area. Promptly responding to the emergency call, the courageous firefighters from the State Fire Service swung into action to contain the imminent threat to both road users and pedestrians.

According to Hassan Adekunle, the spokesperson for the State Fire Service, the dedicated firefighters wasted no time in drenching the fallen tanker and its surroundings extensively, effectively minimizing the risk of a devastating fire outbreak. Moreover, as a precautionary measure, the authorities temporarily closed the affected road to ensure the safety of the public.

The successful outcome of this potentially disastrous situation was made possible by the collaborative efforts of various agencies, including the Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Police, and Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority. Their coordinated response greatly bolstered the safety measures implemented to address the crisis.

Upon investigation, it was determined that the incident was triggered when the tanker driver encountered a parked truck unexpectedly, prompting him to apply the brakes abruptly while in motion. This sudden maneuver led to the detachment of the tanker’s contents, resulting in the spillage observed on the road.
