In November 2022, the DHQ had declared 19 bandit leaders wanted, offering a reward of N5 million for each, in a bid to incentivize citizens to provide crucial information leading to their apprehension. Among those listed were individuals from Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto States, with the aim of dismantling criminal networks responsible for widespread violence and kidnappings.

Sources close to the military have indicated that preparations are underway to unveil a new list of wanted terrorists and bandit leaders, complete with their photographs, as part of continued efforts to neutralize threats to national security. While the exact bounty on these individuals remains undisclosed, the military urges cooperation from the public to ensure their swift capture and prosecution.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed that work is ongoing on the compilation of the new list, indicating imminent action in the ongoing fight against insurgency and banditry.

The military’s recent successes in eliminating key figures involved in terrorism and banditry underscore the significance of targeted operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks. Notable achievements include the elimination of notorious kingpins like Boderi and Dogo Gudali, responsible for orchestrating high-profile kidnappings and attacks.

With ongoing efforts to root out terrorism and banditry, the DHQ’s forthcoming release of names and images aims to bolster public awareness and cooperation in the collective fight against insurgency, ensuring a safer and more secure Nigeria for all citizens.

Preliminary investigation suggests the military gear was destined for the South-East region of Nigeria. Investigators are working to identify the source, owner, and intended recipients of the goods. They are also examining the level of involvement of the suspects and tracking potential co-conspirators.

While CP Tijani assured Lagos residents that the discovery poses no immediate security threat to the state as the items were being moved elsewhere, he expressed concern regarding the recovery due to historical connections between criminal organizations and the use of military-style uniforms.
