Ogun Communities Seek Government Help Over Bad Roads....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Residents of Ijere, Pakuro, Magbon, and 10 other communities in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State are expressing frustration over the deplorable state of the roads connecting their communities…….CONTINUE READING
According to Jimoh Owolabi, Chairman of the Community Development Committee, the residents have been struggling with the challenge for over nine years, despite their efforts to maintain the road through contributions and tolls. Despite contributing three to four million naira annually for repairs, the road remains impassable, prompting the community to seek assistance from the government.
Despite numerous meetings and letters sent to government agencies, including the Ministry of Works and the local government, the community has not received any response or assistance. Moruf Sanyaolu, an elder in the community, emphasized the lack of government intervention as the primary cause of their struggles.
Residents of the Ogunrun area of Mowe also lamented the bad state of the community road and the collection of tolls, which they deemed ineffective. Despite the continuous payment of tolls, the road remains in poor condition, causing damage to vehicles, especially during rainfall.
Fatimo Adenekan, a resident, called on the Ogun Commissioner of Works to help repair the road, expressing concern over the continuous extortion by various groups under the guise of maintaining the road.
However, the Chairman of Ogunrun Community Development Council, known simply as Mr. Shokeye, clarified that the maintenance fee charged at the toll was not extortion but an alternative means of developing the road until government intervention. He stated that the community had expanded and maintained the road themselves but was still awaiting government assistance.
Efforts to reach the state Commissioner of Works, Ade Akinsanya, and the Chairman of Obafemi-Owode Local Government, Ogunsola Adesina, for reactions proved abortive as calls and messages went unanswered.
The residents are hopeful that their pleas for assistance will be heard by the government, leading to the improvement of their road infrastructure and alleviating their longstanding struggles.

‘The Way Wike Attacked Cardinal Onaiyekan Does That Make Sense?’ – Bode George.
Veteran political figure and former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy National Chairman, Bode George, has forcefully defended renowned cleric John Cardinal Onaiyekan, likening him to the legendary South African anti-apartheid activist Desmond Tutu and urging him to remain unbowed despite recent verbal attacks from Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike and various administration officials. Speaking out on Sunday, the PDP chieftain and Atona Oodua of Yorubaland condemned attempts by government actors to diminish the Cardinal’s national stature by claiming he spoke solely for Catholics or acted as a mouthpiece for the political opposition, arguing instead that religious leaders maintain a fundamental civic duty to critique governance and address the socio-economic burdens impacting Nigerians of all faiths and backgrounds.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Drawing a sharp contrast against political detractors who attempt to silence critical moral voices, George referenced biblical history—comparing critics of the cleric to those who chose Barabbas over Jesus Christ—while cautioning younger political actors against disrespecting an octogenarian clergyman and senior global prelate of the Catholic Church. He concluded by imploring government figures to exercise restraint, maintain mutual respect, and abandon personal vitriol, reinforcing the stance that peaceful policy disagreements should never compromise the dignity and freedom of religious leaders speaking truth to power.
