Nine IDPs Return Home Out Of 102 Reportedly Abducted In Borno....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a recent development, nine internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the Gamboru-Ngala camp have managed to return home after reportedly being abducted by Boko Haram terrorists on March 4……..CONTINUE READING

The Director-General of Borno’s State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr. Barkindo Mohammed Saidu, confirmed to Punch Newspaper that the nine IDPs had safely found their way back to the camp. He also mentioned that authorities in Ngala are on high alert for any further returns.

This news comes after reports emerged that a group of 102 IDPs were allegedly abducted by Boko Haram terrorists during an incident on March 4. The abduction reportedly occurred while the IDPs were gathering firewood in the bush.

Local sources and media reports had initially confirmed the abduction, a development that was further emphasized by the condemnation of the alleged kidnapping by the United Nations, which cited over 200 IDPs as missing.

However, the Borno State government refuted these claims, suggesting instead that the individuals may have simply lost their way.

Dr. Saidu expressed skepticism about the abduction narrative, highlighting the absence of ransom demands as evidence against the theory. He asserted that if the IDPs had indeed been abducted, the perpetrators would have already made ransom demands. Additionally, he noted the state government’s cautious approach in quoting any specific numbers, indicating a lack of trust in the information provided by the IDPs.

Dr. Saidu further explained that there is a significant lack of trust between the IDPs and both government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). He criticized the IDPs’ credibility, suggesting that they may exaggerate numbers for certain purposes such as gaining public sympathy or reduce numbers when it comes to matters they oppose, like immunization.

This latest development underscores the complexities and challenges faced by IDPs in conflict-ridden regions like Borno, as well as the need for careful scrutiny and verification of information surrounding such incidents.

Strategic Partnership Details

  • Formal Agreement: The two agencies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the NDLEA headquarters.

  • Operational Integration: The partnership includes provisions for intelligence sharing, coordinated joint operations, officer capacity building, and the exchange of technical resources.

  • Joint Working Committee: A committee will be established to ensure the agreement translates into tangible operational results.

Rationale for Collaboration

  • Shared Criminal Networks: NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), noted that criminal syndicates often engage in both narcotics trafficking and the piracy of creative works, using proceeds from one illicit activity to finance the other.

  • Economic and Social Impact: NCC Director-General, Dr. John Asein, emphasized that organized piracy is a major criminal enterprise that undermines Nigeria’s creative economy, destroys jobs, and weakens national security.

  • Intersecting Supply Chains: Both agencies identified that the same clandestine networks, transportation routes, and financial channels used for drug trafficking are frequently utilized to distribute pirated goods and launder criminal proceeds.

  • Inter-Agency Synergy: The leadership of both organizations highlighted the importance of moving away from isolated operations toward a collaborative model that leverages the specific expertise and intelligence capabilities of each agency.

The initiative aims to more effectively disrupt illegal supply chains, dismantle criminal structures, and protect both the creative sector and the general public from the influence of organized crime.
