In a statement issued by the Deputy Secretary-General of the NSCIA, Prof Salisu Shehu, the council urged the Muslim community to observe the sky for the crescent of Ramadan 1445 on the specified date, which corresponds to the 29th Sha’aban 1445 AH.
The announcement implored skilled Muslim observers to inform the National Moon Sighting Committee upon sighting the crescent.
Under the leadership of its President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, the NSCIA conveyed its congratulations to the entire Muslim community on the approaching 1445 AH Ramadan fast. The council prayed for Allah’s grace to spare the lives of all Muslims, enabling them to partake in worship and receive its full blessings.
Based on the recommendation of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), the President-General advised the Nigerian Muslim community to search for the crescent of Ramadan 1445 AH immediately after sunset on Sunday, March 10, 2024. Should the crescent be sighted by Muslims of impeccable character on that evening, Monday, March 11, 2024, would be declared as the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH. Alternatively, if the crescent is not sighted, Tuesday, March 12, 2024, will automatically mark the beginning of Ramadan 1445 AH.
Furthermore, the statement urged affluent Muslims to assist the less privileged through acts of charity and cautioned merchants against hoarding food or inflating prices while the public observes fasting.
“We implore Muslims to utilize the holy month of Ramadan to pray for Allah’s support for the Palestinians and their liberation from oppression,” the statement concluded.
