United Nations Issues Stark Warning: Sudan Braces For World’s Largest Hunger Crisis....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) has sounded the alarm over Sudan’s escalating conflict between rival generals, warning of an imminent threat to global food security………CONTINUE READING

The power struggle between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, has wreaked havoc in Sudan. Tens of thousands of casualties, widespread infrastructure damage, and severe economic repercussions have ensued, exacerbating an already dire situation.

The conflict has forced over eight million individuals to flee their homes, compounding the existing displacement crisis. With two million already displaced before the hostilities erupted, Sudan now faces the largest displacement crisis globally.

WFP executive director Cindy McCain emphasized the gravity of the situation, highlighting the risk to millions of lives and regional peace and stability. She underscored the urgent need for international attention and assistance.

The Rapid Support Forces, originally stemming from the Janjaweed militia, have faced allegations of indiscriminate attacks on civilians and obstructing aid delivery. Both the RSF and the army have been accused of shelling residential areas, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

The WFP struggles to reach 90 percent of those facing emergency hunger levels, with only a fraction of Sudan’s population able to afford a proper meal daily. In overcrowded transit camps in South Sudan, where 600,000 Sudanese refugees seek refuge, families arrive hungry and face continued hunger.

Disturbingly, one in every five children crossing the border is reportedly suffering from malnutrition. Across Sudan, more than 18 million people are grappling with acute food insecurity, with five million teetering on the brink of catastrophic hunger — a classification just shy of famine.
