The commissioner lamented how public waste bins, strategically positioned along major roads and in markets to enhance cleanliness, have been subjected to appalling abuse. Shockingly, incidents of dead infants and fecal matter being discarded in these bins have been reported, a practice that not only shows disrespect to the deceased but also poses significant health hazards to the entire community.
During the media address, Oresanya outlined the challenges faced by the state in maintaining public sanitation, exacerbated by the improper disposal of waste. He recounted instances where waste bins placed along routes leading to markets, such as Panseke market, and near areas frequented by motorcycle taxi riders were found to contain fecal matter and deceased infants.
Highlighting the severity of the situation, Oresanya emphasized the need for a holistic approach to address the underlying social issues contributing to such behavior. Additionally, he addressed concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of pedestrian bridges, particularly with regard to accessibility for individuals with disabilities.
