Salihu Lukman, the former National Vice Chairman North-west of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has issued a cautionary message to party leaders and President Bola Tinubu, highlighting the risks associated with persisting with a closed government approach, warning that it could result in self-destruction……..CONTINUE READING
In a statement titled “Burden of Leadership, Open Letter to APC Leaders” released on Wednesday, Lukman emphasized the importance of regaining respect and the need for all APC leaders to be willing to make necessary sacrifices, rather than acting as bosses.
Lukman criticized the party leaders for founding a party that successfully won three successive elections but has failed to achieve significant accomplishments.
He argued that the leaders who played a pivotal role in the formation of the APC in 2013 have a responsibility to guide President Tinubu in upholding democratic and progressive principles.
Emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and reflecting the progressive values of the APC, Lukman urged both APC members and Nigerians to work towards steering Tinubu’s administration towards becoming more inclusive.
He stated, “Our leaders who led the merger negotiation to produce APC in 2013 owe it to Nigerians to call President Tinubu to order and get him to recover whatever is left of his democratic and progressive credentials.”
Lukman stressed the collective responsibility of APC leaders and Nigerians to make sacrifices to ensure the success of Tinubu’s administration and to align it with the vision of an inclusive government managed by a progressive party.
He concluded by warning against the temptation of continuing to operate as a closed government, urging both APC leaders and President Tinubu to resist the path of self-destruction.
