Users of the apps expressed frustration earlier today when they were unable to access their accounts.
Upon investigation, our correspondent discovered that both existing Facebook users were required to log in again, while Instagram users found their profiles and homepages unable to refresh.
This outage prompted users to take to other social media platforms to voice their concerns.
One Twitter user, Peace Ighodaro (@peace_igho), lamented, “Who logged us out of Facebook ooo.”
Similarly, Lidia Curanaj (@LidiaNews) from New York tweeted, “Facebook and Instagram down,” while a social media influencer from the Philippines, @RealRazziebinx, expressed, “Is it just me or Facebook logged me out? I guess the world is ending… see you guys.”
Another user, @RaphealMiguel, shared a photo of relief, jokingly stating, “Me after checking on Twitter that Meta is just down and I’m not hacked since my Instagram isn’t loading and my Facebook got ‘session logged out.'”
@Avviexo added, “Anyone else’s #Facebook logged out? Can’t log back in, keeps saying session expired or unexpected error?”
Nigerian sports photojournalist, @PoojaMedia, also commented on the shutdown, saying, “Sessions of all Facebook accounts expired & everyone logged out. You have to log in again. Good luck if you still remember your passwords.”
Additionally, popular user @bod_republic questioned, “Facebook and Instagram down?”
Fortunately, the servers of both platforms have been restored, allowing users to regain access to their accounts by simply logging in with their credentials.
