Specifically targeting Tier-1 bank accounts and wallets, the directive requires them to be linked with either the depositor’s BVN, NIN, or both. Failure to comply by the set date will lead to a “Post No Debit or Credit” status, effectively blocking further transactions on the accounts.
In addition to linking BVN or NIN, the CBN has mandated electronic revalidation of these identification numbers by January 31, 2024, as part of the verification process.
This move aims to enhance the security of banking operations, reduce fraud incidences, and ensure compliance with global banking standards.
