Creating shade in your home is essential for maintaining comfort and reducing energy costs, especially during hot summer months…..READ ALSO
Here are several effective ways to create shade in your home:
- Install Window Treatments: Use curtains, blinds, or shades to block out sunlight and reduce heat gain through windows. Choose window treatments with light-colored or reflective surfaces to bounce sunlight away from your home.
- Exterior Awnings: Install retractable or fixed awnings above windows, doors, or outdoor living areas to provide shade and reduce direct sunlight exposure. Awnings can be made from various materials, including fabric, metal, or wood.
- Plant Trees and Shrubs: Strategically plant trees and shrubs around your home to provide natural shade and reduce solar heat gain. Deciduous trees, which lose their leaves in the winter, can provide shade in the summer while allowing sunlight to penetrate during the colder months.
- Use Shade Sails: Install shade sails or canopies in outdoor areas such as patios, decks, or pool areas to create shade and protect against UV radiation. Shade sails come in various shapes, sizes, and colors, providing flexibility in design and placement.
- Pergolas and Trellises: Construct pergolas or trellises with climbing plants such as vines or ivy to create natural shade and enhance outdoor aesthetics. These structures can also provide support for outdoor seating areas or garden features.
- Window Films or Tinting: Apply window films or tinting to windows to reduce glare, UV exposure, and heat transfer while maintaining natural light. Window films come in various shades and opacity levels to suit your preferences.
- Install Exterior Shades: Consider installing exterior roller shades, screens, or shutters on windows or outdoor living spaces to block direct sunlight and reduce heat gain. These shades can be operated manually or motorized for convenience.
- Create Outdoor Living Spaces: Design outdoor living spaces such as covered patios, pergolas, or screened-in porches to provide shade and protection from the elements. These areas can serve as extensions of your indoor living space for relaxation and entertainment.
- Utilize Umbrellas and Sun Shades: Place umbrellas or sun shades in outdoor seating areas, balconies, or gardens to provide portable shade solutions that can be adjusted throughout the day as needed.
- Strategic Placement of Furniture: Arrange indoor furniture to block direct sunlight and create shaded areas within your home. Positioning sofas, bookshelves, or tall indoor plants near windows can help reduce glare and heat buildup.
By implementing these shade solutions, you can create a more comfortable and energy-efficient environment in your home while also enhancing its aesthetic appeal both indoors and outdoors.

Oshiomhole Expresses Gratitude To PDP For Wike’s Appointment As FCT Minister
Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo State, has sarcastically thanked the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for “giving” Nyesom Wike to the Tinubu administration.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Oshiomhole, who also served as the former President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), praised Wike for his developmental efforts and expressed gratitude to the PDP for allowing him to serve as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the APC government.
Wike, previously a staunch PDP member, supported APC’s Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election after a fallout with his party. As a reward for his support, Wike was appointed FCT Minister.
Oshiomhole compared the situation to a football club letting its “best player” join a rival team. “Thank you, PDP, for giving us Nyesom Wike to help us fix Abuja,” he said. “When you give your best player to another club, you pay a heavy price.”
The lawmaker representing Edo North also joked about the PDP’s decision, saying they didn’t ask for a transfer fee and hinted that the APC might not want to return Wike, even joking about setting up a toll gate to prevent it.
At a New Year luncheon in Port Harcourt, Oshiomhole praised Wike for his contributions to Abuja, highlighting his commitment to the rule of law and environmental regulations.
