Major General Sunday Igbinomwanhia, the commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, disclosed that the kidnappers were operating from an abandoned Federal Police Highway post.
He stated, “In a recent operation, following credible human intelligence on the activities of kidnappers, troops of Sector 1 OPWS, on February 21, 2024, at Jootar village in Ukum LGA of Benue State, rescued 12 kidnapped victims who were in transit from Imo State to Adamawa State.
“Upon encountering the decisive troops of OPWS armed with superior firepower, the kidnappers fled, abandoning their victims.”
The troops recovered a Taraba Express International 18-seater bus with registration number GKA-371XA, which had been towed to the troop’s location from the kidnappers’ hideout.
Among the rescued individuals are Mr. Sule Abu, 55, Mrs. Ashie Shuaibu, 26, Mr. Muhammad Aliyu, 20, Mrs. Felicia Asusi, 29, Mr. Hammed Mamud, 51, Mr. Usman Ali, 27, Mr. Muritala Yussuf, 22, Mrs. Zainab Salau, 35, and Mr. Jacob Nathaniel, 22.
Strange Disease Outbreak at Army Hospital in Kaduna
In a separate development, a mysterious disease outbreak at the Nigeria Army Referral Hospital, Kaduna (NARHK), has resulted in the deaths of three health workers and a patient within a span of two days.
An internal communication dated 21 February revealed that the three health workers were attending to the patient at the hospital when they succumbed to the illness.
The memo, signed by Brigadier-General SO Okoigi, Acting Corp Commander Medical (CCM) of the Nigerian Army, was addressed to the headquarters of the Nigerian Army Corps, Bonny Cantonment, Victory Island, Lagos.
