- Manual Removal: Hand-pulling weeds is an effective and environmentally friendly way to control them. Make sure to remove weeds by the root to prevent regrowth. Use a garden tool like a trowel or hoe to loosen the soil around the weeds before pulling them out.
- Boiling Water: Pouring boiling water over weeds can kill them by scalding the leaves and roots. This method is most effective for weeds growing in cracks in sidewalks, driveways, or between pavers. Exercise caution to avoid splashing boiling water on desired plants.
- Vinegar Solution: Household vinegar, especially vinegar with a higher concentration of acetic acid (around 10-20%), can be an effective weed killer. Spray undiluted vinegar directly onto the leaves and stems of weeds on a sunny day. Be careful not to spray vinegar on desired plants, as it can damage them.
- Salt Solution: Mix salt with water to create a solution and spray it directly onto weeds. Salt dehydrates plants and disrupts their osmotic balance, leading to their demise. However, be cautious when using salt, as it can also affect the soil and harm other plants if overused.
- Corn Gluten Meal: Corn gluten meal is a natural pre-emergent herbicide that inhibits weed seed germination. Sprinkle corn gluten meal on soil surfaces in early spring before weed seeds have a chance to sprout. Keep in mind that corn gluten meal can also inhibit the growth of desired plants, so use it carefully.
- Baking Soda: Sprinkling baking soda over weeds can disrupt their cellular structure and lead to their demise. Apply baking soda directly to the weeds, avoiding contact with desired plants. Repeat as necessary until the weeds are eradicated.
- Flame Weeding: Using a propane torch or weed burner, carefully pass the flame over the weeds to heat and kill them. This method is most effective for young, annual weeds and should be used with caution to avoid fire hazards.
By utilizing these natural methods, you can effectively control and kill weeds in your garden without resorting to chemical herbicides, promoting a healthier and more environmentally friendly approach to weed management.

Oshiomhole, who also served as the former President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), praised Wike for his developmental efforts and expressed gratitude to the PDP for allowing him to serve as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the APC government.
Wike, previously a staunch PDP member, supported APC’s Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election after a fallout with his party. As a reward for his support, Wike was appointed FCT Minister.
Oshiomhole compared the situation to a football club letting its “best player” join a rival team. “Thank you, PDP, for giving us Nyesom Wike to help us fix Abuja,” he said. “When you give your best player to another club, you pay a heavy price.”
The lawmaker representing Edo North also joked about the PDP’s decision, saying they didn’t ask for a transfer fee and hinted that the APC might not want to return Wike, even joking about setting up a toll gate to prevent it.
At a New Year luncheon in Port Harcourt, Oshiomhole praised Wike for his contributions to Abuja, highlighting his commitment to the rule of law and environmental regulations.

The operation was carried out in partnership with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) as part of a major counter-terrorism effort. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mr. Murktar Alhaji Chari, admitted to transporting the materials to Damasak town in Mobbar Local Government Area for an attack targeting MNJTF troops. The seized items included four empty 12kg cylinders, one 6kg cylinder, two carburettor gas canisters, two pressure regulators, and a hose. Intelligence suggests the materials were intended for terrorists planning a retaliatory strike after recent losses, including the death of several militants and the capture of significant weapons. The suspect is currently in custody and cooperating with ongoing investigations.
