- Remove Food Sources: Geckos are attracted to insects like cockroaches, spiders, and flies, which are their primary food sources. Keeping your home clean and free of crumbs, food debris, and standing water can help eliminate these pests, reducing the attractiveness of your home to geckos.
- Use Natural Repellents: Certain scents and substances are known to repel geckos. You can try placing garlic cloves, onion slices, or mothballs in areas where geckos frequent. Some people also use strong-smelling essential oils like peppermint, citrus, or lavender to deter geckos.
- Install Gecko Traps: Sticky traps designed specifically for catching geckos can be placed along walls, baseboards, or other areas where geckos are commonly seen. These traps can capture geckos without harming them, allowing you to release them outside.
- Create Physical Barriers: Installing wire mesh or hardware cloth around the perimeter of your home or in areas where geckos enter can create a barrier that prevents their access. Make sure to securely fasten the mesh to prevent geckos from squeezing through gaps.
- Limit Outdoor Lighting: Geckos are attracted to light, especially at night when they hunt for insects. Minimize outdoor lighting near entry points to your home, as bright lights can draw geckos closer and increase the likelihood of them entering.
- Encourage Natural Predators: Introducing natural predators of geckos, such as cats or certain bird species, into your home or yard can help keep their population in check. However, make sure that these predators are safe and appropriate for your environment.
By implementing these strategies, you can effectively deter geckos from entering your home and create a less hospitable environment for them, encouraging them to seek shelter elsewhere.

Oshiomhole, who also served as the former President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), praised Wike for his developmental efforts and expressed gratitude to the PDP for allowing him to serve as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under the APC government.
Wike, previously a staunch PDP member, supported APC’s Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election after a fallout with his party. As a reward for his support, Wike was appointed FCT Minister.
Oshiomhole compared the situation to a football club letting its “best player” join a rival team. “Thank you, PDP, for giving us Nyesom Wike to help us fix Abuja,” he said. “When you give your best player to another club, you pay a heavy price.”
The lawmaker representing Edo North also joked about the PDP’s decision, saying they didn’t ask for a transfer fee and hinted that the APC might not want to return Wike, even joking about setting up a toll gate to prevent it.
At a New Year luncheon in Port Harcourt, Oshiomhole praised Wike for his contributions to Abuja, highlighting his commitment to the rule of law and environmental regulations.

The operation was carried out in partnership with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) as part of a major counter-terrorism effort. Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, Chief Military Information Officer of MNJTF, confirmed the interception on Thursday. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Mr. Murktar Alhaji Chari, admitted to transporting the materials to Damasak town in Mobbar Local Government Area for an attack targeting MNJTF troops. The seized items included four empty 12kg cylinders, one 6kg cylinder, two carburettor gas canisters, two pressure regulators, and a hose. Intelligence suggests the materials were intended for terrorists planning a retaliatory strike after recent losses, including the death of several militants and the capture of significant weapons. The suspect is currently in custody and cooperating with ongoing investigations. MNJTF Force Commander, Major General Ibrahim Ali, praised the troops and CJTF for their swift action and professionalism, reaffirming MNJTF’s commitment to combating terrorism and securing the region. According to reports, the ruling party’s candidate, Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat to former President Mahama after the December 7 election.
