However, despite her best efforts, she fell short of clinching the top prize, finishing as the runner-up to 22-year-old Ilebaye. Reflecting on her experience, Mercy Eke recently opened up about the reasons behind her inability to secure a second victory in the Big Brother Naija house.

In a candid conversation featured on comedian AY’s YouTube page in an episode of Celebrity Quickies, Mercy shared her insights into why she believes she didn’t emerge victorious for the second time. She attributed her loss to the perception among some viewers that she had already achieved success and didn’t need another win.

Mercy expressed her surprise and disappointment at encountering this sentiment during her second stint on the show. “The first time, I went into the Big Brother House, it was all cute, lovely people. I played the game and I won the show. And I thought it was all cute,” she explained. “Then I went back for the second time, and I found out that people were allergic to winners.”

According to Mercy, there was a prevailing sentiment among some viewers that because she had already tasted victory once, she shouldn’t be allowed to win again. “They were like, ‘She had that, she can’t have it again. She has this, she can’t have it again,'” she recounted. This perception, she believes, ultimately influenced the outcome of the competition, resulting in her second-place finish.

Despite the disappointment of not securing another victory, Mercy Eke remains grateful for the opportunity and the lessons learned from her second stint on Big Brother Naija. “This second experience, I loved it. I will not even take anything away from it because it made me see people for who they truly are,” she shared. “It can only be God’s doing because without this second experience I would not know a lot of things.”

In conclusion, Mercy Eke emphasized that she still considers herself a winner, regardless of the outcome of the competition. “I didn’t know that it is a crime to want to win again,” she remarked. “But anyways, I am still a winner.” Her resilience and positive outlook serve as a testament to her strength of character and determination to succeed, both inside and outside the Big Brother Naija house.
