Backlash Against Benue Legislators For Urging Security Advisers’ Step Down Over Insecurity....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Amidst ongoing insecurity in Benue State, there is a growing outcry against the recent ultimatum issued by Benue lawmakers to the state’s Security Advisers…..READ ALSO

The ultimatum, demanding the resignation of the Security Advisers, has sparked controversy and criticism from various quarters.

Two Civil Society Organisations, the Special Group Mobilisation (SGM) and Benue Levites (BL), have condemned the action of the Benue State House of Assembly. In separate statements issued in Makurdi by their leaders, Terungwa Tyongi and James Abeikya respectively, the groups expressed their disapproval of the ultimatum.

The Assembly’s ultimatum, issued last Tuesday, gave a seven-day deadline to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Internal Security, Chris Joseph Har, and his counterpart on External and Strategy, Lt. Col. Alexander Ashungu, to step down. The ultimatum came amidst concerns over the influx of herdsmen and attacks on communities in the state.

Critics argue that blaming the Security Advisers for the herdsmen incursions is unjust, considering their experience and efforts to address the security challenges in the state. The SGM highlighted the Security Advisers’ decision to halt the practice of arresting cows by the Benue Livestock Guards, which often left communities vulnerable to attacks. This decision, according to the SGM, has led to a reduction in incidents of invasions and killings of innocent people in Benue communities.

The outcry against the ultimatum underscores the need for a comprehensive and tactful approach to addressing the security situation in Benue State. Many are calling on the lawmakers to reconsider their stance and work collaboratively with the Security Advisers to find lasting solutions to the ongoing insecurity.

As the debate continues, stakeholders are urging all parties involved to prioritize the safety and well-being of the people of Benue State above political considerations. The outcome of this situation will likely have significant implications for the security landscape in the state and beyond.
