Jonathan made this heartfelt plea during the funeral service of his elder sister, Obebhatein Jonathan, which was held at the Dame Patience Jonathan Square in Otuoke, Bayelsa.

Following the passing of his sister, the former President disclosed that his mother has now endured the loss of eight of her children, leaving him as her only surviving child.

Expressing his grief, Jonathan stated, “Death is an inevitable part of life, but the timing of its arrival is crucial. My elder sister’s demise occurred at a time when we could have gathered to celebrate her achievements, but instead, our mother mourns her loss. It’s the bitter truth of the situation.”

Jonathan thanked the First Lady of Bayelsa State and other women who provided support to his mother during this difficult time, as he was unable to be with her due to being in London.

He continued, “If you knew the person my mother used to be and witnessed the transformation she has undergone, you would understand the depth of her trauma. Please continue to keep her in your prayers. With God’s grace, we will endure. Thank you for your support.”

During the funeral, the deceased’s second son, Dogood Qkpufu, encouraged women to emulate his mother’s determination. He fondly remembered her pursuit of education and her successful career as a teacher.

Similarly, Omonibele Azibanyeluan, the daughter of Obebhatein, praised her mother’s modest lifestyle and charitable nature, describing her as a woman of peace, patience, and faith.

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, represented by his deputy, extended condolences on behalf of the state government to the Jonathan family, particularly Mama Eunice Jonathan, the matriarch of the family. He emphasized the importance of drawing inspiration from Obebhatein’s resilience and fearlessness, highlighting her remarkable journey of educational achievement despite humble beginnings.

Diri concluded, “Although we mourn your elder sister’s passing, her legacy lives on. Her determination to pursue education despite challenges serves as a beacon of hope and resilience for us all.”

Recruitment Drama: 360,923 Candidates Fail Paramilitary Selection Process.

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has provided an update on its ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The board stated that 1,120,491 applications were successfully completed and processed, allowing candidates to proceed to the computer-based test (CBT) stage.

It also disclosed that 432,935 applications were left incomplete, while 360,923 applicants were disqualified during screening and shortlisting for failing to meet the required criteria.

In total, the recruitment exercise recorded over 1.8 million applications across the country.

The exercise covers agencies under the board, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service, and the Nigeria Correctional Service.

CDCFIB also released a breakdown of CBT performance, showing that 221,996 candidates scored between 0–40, 229,155 scored between 41–60, 278,543 scored between 61–80, while 142,697 scored between 81–100.

The recruitment process is now expected to move to the next stage, which includes physical screening and document verification. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted with details of their screening venues, dates, and required documents.

The board reiterated that the entire process is free of charge and advised applicants to rely only on official communication channels for updates, warning against misinformation and unauthorized messages circulating online.
