Eight students, affected by the gas explosion, were promptly admitted to the University clinic and specialist hospital in Damaturu for necessary medical attention. The university’s management, in an official statement, confirmed that the fire was contained with the combined efforts of the Yobe State University fire brigade and the state fire service. All students were safely evacuated from the premises.
Governor Mai Mala Buni expressed his condolences to the affected students and the university’s management. While acknowledging the gravity of the situation, he emphasized the importance of gratitude for the absence of casualties. Additionally, he directed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide essential provisions such as food, clothing, and bedding for the affected students, while alternative accommodations are arranged.
Governor Buni urged vigilance among the populace to prevent similar incidents in the future, pledging government support in investigating the root causes of the fire outbreak to forestall any recurrence.
