During a routine inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in the capital city, Wike emphasized the importance of timely payments to contractors to maintain project consistency and quality. Notable sites visited by the minister included the official residence of the Vice President and various road projects.

Expressing satisfaction with the quality of work being delivered by contractors, Wike underscored the significance of delivering top-notch infrastructure to the people, asserting that they deserve nothing less.

He stated, “We don’t allow variation because we always try to pay when it is due, so the issue of variation does not come in. I know every contractor would want to have their money as quickly as possible.”

Highlighting the critical role of tax revenue in financing infrastructure projects, Wike urged FCT residents to fulfill their tax obligations, including ground rents. He emphasized that government funds are derived from taxes and are essential for improving the region’s infrastructure.

In his plea to residents, he reiterated, “The government does not print money. The government is to tax people and then use that money to improve the area. So, I will always plead with everybody that they should try as much as possible to pay their ground rent.”

Wike’s proactive approach to project management and his call for tax compliance underscore his commitment to enhancing infrastructure and development in the FCT.
