According to the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, this development was revealed on Tuesday.

Odutola mentioned that the apprehension took place on Monday, conducted by police operatives in the Ago-Iwoye area of the state.

It is noted that the kidnapped individuals, Father Kenneth Kanwa and Father Jude Nwachukwu, were reportedly taken from St. Vincent de Paul Fier Parish in the Diocese of Pankshin, Plateau State.

The alleged perpetrators, who were later identified as parish members, purportedly demanded a ransom of N25 million from family and fellow church members to secure the release of the priests.

However, after a week of being held captive, the Christian Association of Nigeria’s Plateau State chapter, led by Polycarp Lubo, announced the safe release of the priests.

In an interview with Punch on Tuesday regarding the arrest, Odutola clarified that one of the suspects, identified as Yaro and also a church member, admitted to fleeing Pankshin out of fear that community members might retaliate against him upon discovering his involvement in the priests’ abduction.

She stated, “At approximately 4:25 pm on Monday, we received intelligence indicating that a kidnapping suspect, Christopher Yaro, had fled to Ijebu-Ode after allegedly conspiring with another church member and five other individuals to abduct the two Reverend Fathers in the Pankshin area of Plateau State.

“The suspects were reportedly armed with four K.2 rifles during the commission of the crime. Yaro has been apprehended. Further details will be provided to the public upon the completion of the investigation.”
