The Super Eagles suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to the Elephants of Ivory Coast in a thrilling match on Sunday night.
Addressing the defeat in a post on his official X handle (formerly Twitter) on Sunday night, Atiku acknowledged that the outcome was not what Nigerians worldwide had anticipated.
Despite the disappointment of losing the final and missing out on the AFCON trophy, Atiku emphasized that all Nigerians would continue to rally behind the Super Eagles.
Expressing his continued pride in the team, Atiku commended them for their dedication, hard work, and sacrifices to reach this stage of the tournament.
He wrote: “Although it wasn’t the result we all hoped for, we stand by you, #SuperEagles. We are still proud of you guys. Well done, @NGSuperEagles. -AA”

Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court on Thursday issued a warrant of arrest for former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq, and former Permanent Secretary, Bashir Nura Alkali, over their failure to appear in court.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The duo were billed for arraignment before the Abuja court alongside Sani Nafiu Mohammed, who was the only defendant present in court.
They are facing a 21-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over alleged criminal breach of trust, abuse of office, fraudulent contract awards and diversion of public funds totaling $1.3 million and ₦746.57 million.
According to the anti-graft agency, the defendants allegedly diverted funds meant to be refunded to the Ministry under the National Social Safety Net Coordinating Office programme for personal use.
Lead prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs, told the court that the charge had been filed since December 15, 2025, but the first and second defendants could not be produced despite efforts to serve them.
He said Farouq had earlier obtained the release of her passport in 2024 for a medical trip to Saudi Arabia but has neither returned the passport nor submitted any medical report to the commission.
Farouq’s lawyer, Abdul Ibrahim, blamed her absence on ill health and asked the court to give him six weeks to produce her, but the request was rejected.
Ruling on the matter, Justice Onwuegbuzie granted the EFCC’s request and ordered the immediate arrest of Farouq and Alkali.
The case was adjourned until May 18, 2026, for arraignment and trial.

The Edo State Government said the scholarship will cover the children’s education from their current levels through university, ensuring their academic pursuits continue without disruption.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Akhere Ebojele, the government said the gesture reflects its commitment to supporting families of fallen military personnel.
The beneficiaries are Farida Hussain-Braimah, an 18-year-old Software Engineering student at Nile University, Abuja; Amir Hussain-Braimah, a 16-year-old SS3 student; and Yasmeen Hussain-Braimah, a 12-year-old JSS2 pupil.
Governor Okpebholo described the scholarship as both a moral obligation and a demonstration of responsible leadership.
He said the late Brigadier General Braimah made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation and deserves to be honoured through meaningful support for his family.
According to the governor, the initiative is aimed at securing the future of the deceased officer’s children while recognising his courage and patriotism.
He added that the move aligns with his administration’s SHINE Agenda, which prioritises education, social welfare, and human capital development.
The Edo State Government also encouraged other states and private organisations to establish similar support systems for families of security personnel who die in active service.
