Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, also lamented the situation, terming it a significant loss for the nation.
Reports indicate that Wigwe, alongside his wife, son, and three others, including Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former chairman of NGX Group Plc, were feared dead following a helicopter crash near the California-Nevada border on Friday night.
Abiodun, in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Lekan Adeniran, on Sunday, described the incident as a heartbreaking loss for the affected families, friends, and the entire Nigerian business community.
The governor eulogized Wigwe as an exemplary banker who made substantial contributions to the Nigerian economy, noting that his passing leaves an irreplaceable void.
He extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, the management and staff of Access Holdings, the business community, and the Rivers State government.
Similarly, Fayemi, in a condolence message signed by Ahmed Sajoh, head of his media office, on Sunday, hailed Wigwe as a compassionate individual who positively impacted numerous lives through philanthropy and generosity.
He praised Wigwe’s leadership in transforming Access Bank into a prominent financial institution in Africa, attributing the growth of Nigeria’s banking sector and the continent’s economic opportunities expansion to his visionary leadership.
Fayemi also paid tribute to Ogunbanjo, describing him as another distinguished entrepreneur and industry leader who empowered individuals and communities alike.
