Na’Abba, a prominent politician from Kano in Northern Nigeria, passed away on December 27, 2023, in Abuja at the age of 65, following a brief illness.

In recognition of his contributions to the nation, members of the Green Chamber have decided to immortalize the revered politician.

This decision was prompted by a motion presented on the floor of the House by Aliyu Madaki, a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party representing Kano State.

The lawmakers acknowledged Na’Abba’s early involvement in politics as a student at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he served as an Executive Committee Member of the ABU Chapter of the People’s Redemption Party during the Second Republic under Mallam Aminu Kano.

Furthermore, the House recognized Na’Abba’s significant role as a member of the House of Representatives during the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1999.

Na’Abba’s tenure as the Speaker of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003 was particularly praised for his bold advocacy for legislative autonomy and his innovative leadership approach in steering the House’s affairs.

Madaki highlighted Na’Abba’s initiatives to bolster the independence of the legislature, including thorough scrutiny of the budget, strengthening House Committees, fostering a cohesive and participatory legislative environment, and regulating debates on national issues.

In honor of his enduring contributions, the House has proposed naming the National Assembly Service Commission Building after Na’Abba.

To formalize this proposal, the motion has been forwarded to the Senate for their consideration and approval, as per Naija News reports.

    Allegations and Plea

    • The EFCC alleges that Bodejo accepted various large cash payments in U.S. dollars from Sa’idu Abubakar, including $100,000 in January 2022, $200,000 later that month, $980,000 in February 2024, and $500,000 in March 2024.

“THEY DON’T LIKE ME!”: FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Exposes Tense Relationship With Civil Servants!.

  • FCT Minister Nyesom Wike stated during a monthly media chat in Abuja that he is unpopular among civil servants.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

    • He attributed this lack of popularity to his efforts to shut down channels for the fraudulent diversion of public funds, explaining that money previously misappropriated by staff is now being redirected toward road infrastructure.

    Reasons for Friction

    • The Minister criticized the habit of approving funds for unnecessary activities, such as traveling to conferences in the United States for land administration, suggesting that staff should instead conduct research locally.

    • Wike highlighted a significant shift in budget management, noting that he reduced recurrent expenditure in favor of capital expenditure, moving from a system where recurrent spending accounted for 65 percent of the budget to one where capital projects now receive 70 percent of funding.

    • He maintained that he will not approve large sums for “frivolous” conferences, choosing instead to prioritize infrastructure projects that provide tangible benefits to the public.

    • Conclusively, Wike asserted that because he puts money into roads rather than funding these conferences—which he described as vehicles for corruption—he does not expect to be liked by the civil service workforce.
